VGC 004 - Basic Instruction on Guitar Care

Hi Everyone,
Based on the recent weather events in my region, I didn't get a cast out last week. I did, however, decide that perhaps this week we should talk about basic care and maintenance of our beloved axes, so that is the topic of today's show. It's just the basics, we're not going to go into great detail...yet...but definitely good info to have on hand.
Our source for this show comes from Schmitt Music's website. It's available as a .pdf file if you'd like to download it. You'll find it here: http://www.schmittmusic.com/pdf/guitar_care.pdf.

Our thanks go out to Schmitt Music for the information. I'd also like to thank the Podsafe Music Network for today's music. You heard: "Flood" by Jeff Eaton, "Looks Like Water" by Man Bites Dog, and "Walk on Water" by Velvet Chain (yeah, I've got a theme going here! LOL).
If you like the music, please visit Opinionated Ramblings, my indie music podcast, for full versions of the songs and links and information for the artists. These songs and more can be found on Show Number 33.

Thanks for subscribing! If you're interested in VGC swag, there are some items in the Opinionated Ramblings store. Please feel free to comment on the blog or "gmail" me at "ceejay1964." Take care, and I'll talk to you next time!

Rain, Rain, Go Away. Flooding in NH.

Hi Folks,
Normally, I'd be putting together a show for the week, but things here in the Northeast have been a bit...uh...challenging, lately. We've got a bit of a flooding situation going on, and I've been dealing with a water-filled basement along with many road closures, washouts, sinkholes, evacuations, national guard reinforcements, and questionable dam strength all around. We feel very fortunate that we have been spared much of the extreme situations that our neighbors have had to deal with, but it's still keeping us very busy.
If you'd like to see pictures or a short video I shot, please check my other blog/podcast where I have made a few postings on the subject. You can find it at OpinionatedRamblings.com.
Thanks for subscribing, and I hope to be back with the next show very soon.
Cheers,
~Ceejay

VGC 3 - The Fender Telecaster Bass

Today's topic: The Fender Telecaster Bass. What started as a companion bass for the Telecaster guitar has become a bit of a legend in the bass community. The first version could also be considered Fender's first "reissue," as it was essentially a '51 P-bass with a new name. This model ranged for 4 years, from 1968 to early 1972. And let's not forget the Pink Paisley and Blue Floral finishes!
Version 2, released in 1972, featured a beefy humbucker and the loss of the metal control plate. These were made until 1979, and are much more numerous than the single coil version.

The pictures featured are from the following websites: The blue '68 is a gorgeous project by Mike Sonneson. Click here to see the page about the project. The '72 is for sale at Katz Vintage Guitars (scroll to the bottom of the page) for a very decent price!

Please feel free to comment here with stories, pictures, info, corrections, additions, etc. I'd love to hear from you! The comments link is at the bottom of this post...

Today's music is provided by the Podsafe Music Network. Please support these bands and let them know you heard them on the VGC! I played: "Come on Brother, Come on Sister" by the Bulldogs, "Kick the Can" by Poundcake, "Alive" by COMEG, "Mainline" by Atomsplit, and "The Fire's Light" by the Bulldogs.

Thanks, and I'll catch you next time!
